Let's get straight to the point here.
Indie artists depend on Spotify for their traffic which is odd since it's an uphill battle for them to even get paid well for the streams.
Here's an article published last December that explains what they pay artists per stream.
But here's a bit about what that is:
"Spotify pays rights-holders between $0.003 and $0.005 per stream on average. Approximately 70 percent of the total revenue earned per stream goes to the artist, while the rest is absorbed by the platform itself."
We see that as unfair and need your help to fight this, which is why we have a project we're working on.
If you don't know, we get indie music sent to us all of the time by music publicity firms, labels, and the artists themselves. When we do, we publish a weekly broadcast on our internet radio station.
You should also know that once they go on the show, they also go on rotation on our station.
This means that we can set the tracks to be requested by listeners which also means, when you do, the artists get paid per play.
Here is what the request feature looks like!
Because we're currently in the experimental stage for this, we can only do 1 cent per play but when you look at it, it's far better than what Spotify pays.
More specifically, for this project, we're talking with each artist for their participation, and for those who do, they benefit from these payouts.
Now, the reason why we're paying so little has a lot to do with you and where you come in.
All you have to do is subscribe to our service since we currently do not advertise.
That has a lot to do with how we can pay more to these artists.
Over time, we will be able to increase these payments.
