As a threshhold, Texas King's "Chandelier" single, released today in 2019, was their last before the worldwide pandemic lockdown. In a month's time, the song cracked the top 40 in Canada and continued to climb in the following months.
You can hear why it made its way up the charts, easily nestled next to Cage The Elephant's "Social Cues". It's got some great energy, pretty straightforward rock n' roll track. The song isn't so easy to interpet at first. Jordan touches on the subject of addiction, and one that is hardly touched on, the addiction to gambling. Substance abuse comes with the territory. Perhaps he enjoys the nightlife a bit much?
How does it relate to a chandelier? One interpretation is that the chandelier represents opulance that is out of reach. That explains the gambling as a way to get there and still bogged down in the routine. Is it a celebration of hedonism? That's alright. One thing that can't be ignored is how close to a reckless reality this is, after seeing this footage.
