Motivational Music: Auroara's

Everyone gravitates to music for different reasons.

The spectrum goes from general entertainment to drawing out an emotional connection.

It's toward this side of that spectrum where motivational music comes into play and in this case, the intention is to motivate the listener towards self-healing.

Auroara's, "Emergence" single reflects her struggle as well, but it also promotes her newest 4-track EP 'Sacred Rebirth'.

Motivational Music "Emergence" Single Review

Chorus:

"I want to be real but I'm scared that it's not enough."

This reflects the procrastination we often inflict on ourselves which Auroara anticipates will connect with many of listeners.

"Emergence" dwells somewhere in the space of confronting self-doubt but acknowledging an antagonizer who is at the source of the problem.

"They were always your scars. They were never mine."

Other times she seems to also credit someone with helping to shatter her self-doubt.

"Self-doubt shattered in my head, you gave me your own breath. Self-doubt shattered in my head, you gave me a reason."

She might be telling this story from beginning to end but without knowing for sure, it's easy to accept this as a motivational song that portrays abuse in general.

The victim of abuse can't even look in a mirror to see themselves clearly.

That being the case, we're left with a more unique approach that Auroara brings with her.

The fact that she has an indigenous musical approach to the background.

The percussion and the fiddle are good choices to accompany the song and suggest that there's more to look forward to in the 'Sacred Rebirth' EP.

The Bigger Picture Around Auroara's Motivational Music

I little more research into Auroaura reveals that the "Emergence" single is part of a larger project that she refers to as Simply Sacred which has services, podcasts, poetry, and more about emotional healing.

Knowing this, we see that "Emergence" isn't just the single to an EP of motivational music, but that it's part of a bigger project to promote self-healing and to help others.

I wanted to get more into the motivation behind this work with some questions.

Q&A With Auroara

Zoe: The lyrics in the song are self-explanatory and you present yourself and your project around healing and helping others to do the same. Simple questions, how are you HEALING today?

Auroara:

I am healing by allowing myself to love myself while I expose myself so vulnerable to the world, and invite others to do the same! It is very healing to push past barriers, and perceived limitations and just allow the love of life to unfold :)

Zoe: The track is somewhat minimal despite the bass, piano, and violin. Who are your influences who also approach minimalism in their music?

Auroara:

I like what Mike Posner has been doing since he started his healing journey. Quite simple and authentic. He has inspired me since his album on grief and raw emotion. He mixes major chords with heavy and sad topics which I found to really influence my direction.

Zoe: How have you grown through your art since your first release?

Auroara:

I have grown immensely since I began! The producers and musicians who work with me also note this. I love to grow and I am excited to see where it takes me towards my next album that I plan to start writing next year.

Zoe: Do you see your releases as separate themes?

Auroara:

"Feel it to Heal" it was all the same theme of putting a story to the experience of pain and suffering many people go through. The next four singles are the medicine songs that go with that, it is important to not just share your story but to bring medicine into the pain so that it can transform. This last single, Emergence is the fourth medicine song that is all about the rebirth after the restorying.

Zoe: Is this track part of a new album?

Auroara:

This track stands on its own because I set out to prove to myself that I could make a radio-quality song, even with the beginner mind that I have with music theory and the industry. I wanted to show myself what is possible so although it is one of four medicine songs. It's the one that I decided would be "mainstream" sounding, whereas the other three medicine songs are more like lullabies for the soul.

Zoe: What does the future hold for Auroara?

Auroara:

I will be practicing what it means to perform my music, talk about it openly, and have the public respond to it. I will be sharing unique sharing circle soundscapes with my songs and inviting the audience to share how they connect, to bring together the voices for healing in a space or community. I plan to evolve through that process and then start writing my next album in the spring. It will be an album on sacred sexuality and the elements of life that bring that power in a beautiful, seductive, natural, and primal way. I plan to call it Dancing on the Edges. That is a big window I opened of what is to come ;)
