'Rocking Into Midnight', Sanjay Michael

'Rocking Into Midnight', Sanjay Michael

What is rock n’ roll anymore? It’s gone through so many revolutions that we can’t be hearing the same thing anymore.

At least not as it used to be. Sanjay Michael’s full-length debut ‘Rocking Into Midnight’ means to bring us back to basics.

The main single is this release's title track, opening up the album.

If you’ve got an ear tuned to rock music, you’ll hear the AC/DC come through loud and clear, to the point that it made me blush with embarrassment.

That someone would be so bold as to take something that’s already earned.

Let’s look at what this album is about though.

It’s one man’s love for straight-up rock music.

On the first listen, “Rocking Into Midnight”,

...isn’t my favorite opener here, even though Sanjay Michael makes his love for AC/DC known when pitching this album.

There are some parts of it that are just not as tight.

That's not enough to hold me back.

I had to keep listening to find that this album has a lot of surprises.

As it plays in the background, I start to believe we need rock n roll back.

The songs get tighter, almost immediately and they blend into blues, turning out some original arrangements that show...

Sanjay Michael has a great debut under his belt.

Tracks like “Vampire Girl” are just fun.

“City Blues” has him leaning back and jamming out the rock experience as a grand closer.

“It’s Just Business” is another one that sticks.

In fact, one of the things I like about Sanjay is that he has that Jello Biafra kind of voice that really, on a second listen, makes “Rocking Into Midnight” much much better for me.

This also adds a punk element to things that didn’t work for me the first time, making this album deliver the goods.

Sanjay isn't some new kid on the block.

This guy seems to have earned his way as a studio musician through various studio sessions, and greasy bars in Australia, and Singapore over the years before the urge to put out his own music overcame him.

Also, the urge to bring some fun back to rock via his own material.

With that, one thing led to another, and then the pandemic hit.

A good thing in this case motivating him to become his own band for this release.

Everything seems to have lined up perfectly for this to happen.

When all is said and done, we're left with one highway-to-Hell of a debut from Sanjay Micheal!
