Swedish singer-songwriter Thea Gustafsson AKA Becky and the Birds musical career has been on track long before she got here. Her father, a musician, had an extensive record collection Thea would randomize. Origins of musical influence were jazz, blues and classical, all genres you can hear in her music and her voice. The freedom she exercises to dip into that influence it makes her sound hard to pin down with one genre.

"I made my baby cry" is a simple as listening for the melody someone leaves on her voicemail, singing it repetively, adding piano, more voices and instruments. Naturally, she takes the gospel route but it's her falsetto and quiky samples that modernizes the song.

"When she holds me" is another simple approach to songwriting. We've sat messing with a guitar before and find three notes, one or two of them are flat but you find something you like and settle on that. Once she finds a vocal melody that pulls those chords away from the loop, it's time to build and that's what she does. Of the two, "When she holds me" is my favorite but I want to hear the whole album.
