The Stoic Radical Face Expresses "Doubt"

The Stoic Radical Face Expresses

Sometimes you can get a great sense of refreshment from music, never knowing that you were thirsty for it.

Our aural sensibilities were instantly quenched when we heard the new "Doubt" single by Ben Cooper aka Radical Face.

Hear what we mean?

Much like Pope Gregory's seven deadly sins, Ben Cooper explores six results that come after healing and in his new EP, Therapy, one of them being doubt.

The track sounds like something that could be on a Shins record but that's as far as we'll go to comparisons.

"Doubt" is upbeat even if the premise borders a bit dark.

Radical Face Focuses On Being Present

The view shared about Den Cooper's latest work is that it's focused on the present rather than the past, leaving his other work behind as a phase of his musical development.

"Doubt" has Cooper facing down his struggles with a newfound approach of modest yet uncertain poise.

That must be just as refreshing for Radical Face is the music is for us.

LYRICS:

(VERSE ONE)

Staring into the sun
Always looking for an answer
When I know there isn't one
I get get get what I can
Cause now I know
That those heartfelt words
Were all empty vessels

(CHORUS)

I don't know if this all will end
I don't know who to call my friends
I don't know how to choose my sins
I don't know how much more I can bend
I don't know if these plans will take
I don't know if it's all just a waste
I don't know if our hearts will break
I just know that we're here
And that's enough for today

(VERSE TWO)

Drifting through another day
Can't connect to what's around me
Laugh or cry, it's all the same
I gotta sleep when I can
But I have learned
That nothing lasts
Not even problems

Here's what Ben had to say about making the music video for "Doubt", which he directed.

"This video was a pain to make. I wanted to do everything in camera, only using software to cross-fading the clips. So no post was added -- not even basics like color-correction. I learned the hard way that sitting that still for 30 to 45 minutes at a time is way more difficult than it sounds. But I find it pretty funny that the most physically demanding video I've ever made involved not moving."
