The Koch network's political arm, the Americans for Prosperity (AFP) organization, will be holding events during the month of August to put pressure on Republican lawmakers. The group hopes to pressure lawmakers to freeze spending before the September 30 deadline to fund the government. Lawmakers from both sides have returned home for the August recess. The Government Affairs Office Chief for AFP, Brent Gardner, said:

"Congress struggles to meaningfully restrain even discretionary spending, which accounts for one-third of federal government spending. If we can't achieve that, what hope is there for us to make serious fixes to the budget?"

Garnder also added:

"Simply put, the American dream won't exist for future generations if we allow our country to head into a debt spiral. This effort is designed to make sure spending remains a critical part of our national discussion."

The Koch network is apparently furious at Republicans that they supported for passing a "fiscally irresponsible" $1.3 trillion spending bill in March, which President Trump claimed to reluctantly sign. When he did, he said that he would never sign one like it again. Republicans are looking to send a series of smaller spending bills to the President to avoid sending one massive one.

This apparently has the Koch network concerned, believing that those smaller bills could total to a larger amount for 2018. The AFP is an influential conservative group backed by billionaire donor Charles Koch, the CEO for Koch Industries. The events planned will be to hold meetings with lawmakers in their home offices, ice cream socials and town halls.
