Secretary of State Mike Pompeo thinks Donald Trump is the second coming of Christ.

Seriously.

He didn’t say the word “Christ,” but the sentiment is the same.

During an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), Pompeo claimed it’s “possible” God sent Trump to save the Jewish people.

Jerusalem Dateline tweeted a comparison to the biblical character of Esther, who convinced the king of Persia not to slaughter the Jewish people:

When asked his thoughts on that allusion, Pompeo replied:

“As a Christian, I certainly believe that’s possible. I am confident that the Lord is at work here.”

Pompeo is not the first person in the Trump administration to propose this.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders suggested divine intervention put Trump in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

This comes--not coincidentally--at the time Trump capitulated to Israel’s long-sought call for the U.S. to recognize Israeli control of the Golan Heights, an area Israel annexed in 1981 from Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War.

Trump has also recently accused Democrats of being "anti-Israel" and "anti-Jewish."

One may be inclined to shake his head and laugh a bit.

But it isn’t funny.

It’s dangerous.

The most powerful man in the world who has lived his life acting in ways completely antithetical to Christianity is using anti-Semitism to attack his political adversaries.

This is not all that dissimilar from the other divisive, destructive rhetoric Trump uses to embolden white supremacists in their recent acts of domestic terrorism.
