We return with the second part of our two-part discussion about "The Batman" (2022)! Our last episode was supposed to start off the second season of our weekly movie podcast but there were delays. Specifically, Alex turned his focus to work on the sequel to his book Wicked Roots: The Elsbeck Chronicles, and I got overwhelmed by work to the point where I couldn't even get enough sleep, much less, continue working on this podcast. Check further below to see how you can make sure we can keep doing this cause, I'm ready to quit my job(s), goddammit!
Is "The Batman" (2022) Pulp or Cult?
We don't have a rating system for these movies by choice. We also don't rate them as to whether they're pulp or cult but Batman has a long history in our culture, starting as pulp fiction where it's always remained, especially in comic-book form.
Batman: The Animated Series was my "pulp" because, like many others, I would always rush home to see it after school, wondering what the next serial would be.
The character(s) have also had a cult-like following because of its massive popularity, but it's also too accessible to meet our standards of what makes it "cult".
That being said, this version of Batman comes tonally close to what we consider cult because, again, it's still too accessible a property.
While I did watch this in the theatre, I also did repeated viewings of it on my Shadowplay Drive-in. I haven't ordered the posters for my lightboxes yet, but when I do, I'll be sure to update that here!
Here's the episode:
