Right Wing Misgendering of Rep. Sarah McBride
Rep. Sarah McBride has been longtime political activism for transgender rights, and steadily climbing the ladder of her political career, most recently winning the election to serve the state of Delaware in Congress.in 2024.
The transgender politician is the first to serve in Congress but with the election of Donald Trump the White House, the culture wars have continued by setting a standard via a Jan 20 executive order, only recognizing two sexes.
Rep. Sarah McBride serves as a member of the Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Europe and after an hour of a hearing on Tuesday, when recognized by Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, she was recognized as Mr. McBride. This caused the subcommittee’s top Democrat, Rep. Bill Keating, of Massachusetts to correct his correct his statement. This created a tense exchange between the two, resulting in Rep. Self to end the hearing.
This is not the first time Rep. McBride was misgendered within the subcommittee. On Feb 6, Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., referred to her as "The gentleman from Delaware" on the House floor or all places. The Congressional Record was then changed to refer to her as "Gentlewoman."
This is absolutely appalling and a blatant disregard for the truth I have spoken.

The Congressional Record is an official publication, and should accurately reflect my words.
I refuse to participate in this lie. Tim “Sarah” McBride is a MAN! https://t.co/7HA5rkFImG
I hate to say that this MAGAt is correct but isn't that the point of putting those statements verbatim on public record? If it truly is something that could damage their political careers, then let the culture wars decide that.
What Rep. Sarah McBride Has Been and Will Be Up Against
Not long after Rep. Sarah McBride was sworn in, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.presented a bill targeting McBride to ban her from using the women's restroom.Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson also followed suit.
We've seen a ramping up of MAGAts targeting LGBTQ culture and people, claiming it's a war against wokeness. With Trump back in the White House, there's certainly a desire for the fight on both sides. The changes enforced by Trump are no doubt permanent being that with his second chance at the presidency, because he won't be leaving this time around.
Democrats coming Rep. McBride's defense, as Rep. Keating did during Tuesday's hearing, is a bold move but might not be worth it. As an executive order, MAGAt lawmakers should continue their offenses and have them put on public record.
It's interesting that up until the Rep. Self gabbled the hearing to adjourn, everyone seemed very cordial. No one seemed to interrupt the other or make ridiculous statements as weve seen MAGAts do in many of those hearings. By Rep. Keating triggering the heated exhange, McBride was not able to do her job as a committee member.
With all of the destruction that Trump is doing to all of the departments across the federal government, as well as isolating us from our allies such as Europe, I would be surprised if McBride will have a chance to do anything at all. This subcommittee could also be considered government waste and broken up.
While she is transgender, she doesn't appear to want to make that a priority to serve Delawarians. She's even said that she would respect the restroom ban targeting her, even saying that she was not going to take the bait and was there to serve her constituents.
