Montreal, Québec-based singer-songwriter Kandle released a new single last week, "Live A Lie" and, get this, she's Agent Scully from X-Files in the music video! You don't have to wait, just play the video as you read. The single is a lead-up to her new, very exciting 5th studio album to be released next year!

Since 2011, Kandle Osborne has 4-albums, 3-EPs, and a bunch of powerful singles under her belt. Should you go through her catalog, you will see that she likes to dabble in the darkness, which you want a Kandle for, right? We all knew that joke was coming, so, why not just go ahead and get it out of the way?

Allow me to think the worst, that this song is about conspiracies. While I'm always thinking about Gillian Anderson AKA Agent Scully, not specifically the X-Files series, the tribute to the show became clear.

What Is “Live A Lie” About?

Judging from her lyrics, the song starts off with, "Feel like it’s one thing after the next I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t rest," later on followed by, "Taught to confuse the truth or delusion of self I can’t see, I can’t see, I can’t tell." The chorus repeats with, "Live a lie, live a lie, I’m living a lie."

My thoughts went to the uptrend of conspiracy influencers out there and to those with weak constitutions. At the very worst, they fall in line. At the very least, it's just fucking annoying. Kandle might be expressing the feelings of someone in the middle, who is just browbeaten, tired, and feeling somewhat defeated, in which case, there's still hope for her. With the music video paying tribute to the X-Files series, it puts a cooler and less concerning spin on the issue.

"Live A Lie" Music Video Is Like X-Files Fan Fiction

My interpretation of the song is spot on, but coming from Kandle herself:

"With this song being about living a lie, and the search for the truth, we decided to make the music video an episode of The X-Files! This cinematic homage still layers in some welcome levity, with epic performance pieces and considerably more dancing than an X-Files episode typically contains. Happy 30th anniversary, X-Files!"

This music video is, again, very cool. Kandle Osborne is Dana Scully while Jeffrey Mitchell is Fox Mulder. They're on the case, getting some dancing moments in while they work. Love that they rock out towards the end, too. The lighting and camera work are great.

The music comfortably soft and atmospheric until they come in with the reverb and pedal effects in the end. Kandle's vocals have that Jonna Lee feel and, pre-dancing scene in the car, I even thought this was a take on iamamiwhoami's live concert video debut. Put this video and track on rotation!
