The Chillwave music genre is one of the few that give me all the feels when I hear it. Something about the sound is disorienting in a pleasant way. Ben Braun AKA Hotel Pools is among the favored bunch of chillwave artists who have earned a devoted fan base over the years. The "Allison" single pre-dates Hotel Pools' full-length album debut which has since become a classic.

Chillwave Music Review for "Allison" Single
This is the third single off of Hotel Pool's full-length debut, Fall out of eight. I love the warbled synths that take me back, like many, to when I first heard this style with Washed Out's "Feel It All Around". In fact, listening to it again, this track follows the same 4/4 template. The thing about the chillwave aesthetic is that it's the kind of music you can imagine yourself sunbathing to because it's 106 degrees outside. What are you insane?
In studying this track, it isn't until the 21st measure before the track takes on a life of its own. With the foundation of the melody established, the heightened notes that framed the intro recede into the background throughout the track as another lowered melody takes its place. The single is then book-ended with minimal mid notes that take the track from a higher to a lower register as if moving from the sun into the shade.
