Eva X's First Single For 2024
Industrial pop artist from Vancouver, British Columbia releases her latest single, "Dopamine Blind" today. Gabrielle Gustafson AKA Eva X describes her persona as "a robot girl singing about human things, OR synthpop to feed your ears and brain with haunting vocals, reflective thoughts, and danceable beats."
That description evokes the imagery of an AI character similar to Scarlett Johansson's character she voiced in "Her" or even in the "Ghost In The Shell" remake. Or just some female AI in general.

First Listen To Eva X's "Dopamine Blind"
The track opens up similar to what you might expect from Front Line Assembly-styled techno. Then it goes for a harder and more industrial feel. Gabrielle's vocals seem too pretty for this sound at first, thinking more Evanescene than Flyleaf. The lyrics and her choice of melody quickly do away with those concerns because she meets the moment perfectly. Quite simply, she wants that dopamine high so much that it should be blinding. In that sense, it's edgier than I expected. At first, I expected the vocal tracks to not flow evenly with the music but Eva X has produced enough singles since 2019 to know what they're doing. The subject matter in some of her singles has gone to dark places which toughens up the artist in my view. That a dopamine high could also kill is another thought that takes this track to dark places. This is the first single for what could be another full-length and second album to come for this artist.
