LokkisKott, "Deep Inside" Single (Review)

LokkisKott,

LokkisKott is the identity of a multi-instrumentalist from Goulburn, New South Wales. This artist describes the creation of this project name as such.

"I created the artist name "LokkisKott" from my first and middle names, Lachie and Scott. I capitalized the "K" in LokkisKott to make the double meaning of "Lokki's Kott", i.e., "Lachie's Cot", referring to my baby cot, where my 'inner child' now rested."

Lachie has established that his interest in music started at a very young age and it was more about vocalization. His go-to is Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. That requires a very specific vocal technique which Lachie saw very plainly. LokkisKott steps forward with his single debut "Deep Inside" to show off his songwriting, singing, arraignment, and instrumentation abilities.

Let's Go "Deep Inside" With LokkisKott's Debut Single

I've briefly mentioned the Chester Bennington influence. I remember the popularity of at least one Linkin Park hit from back in the day enough to where I avoided them. It wasn't my thing but, Stone Temple Pilots (STP) was. In only the last couple of years did I learn that Bennington was the first lead singer to replace Scott Weiland for a five-track EP from 2013, High Rise. In that listen alone, I found what a great talent Bennington was and will say that's one of the best STP releases ever.

Lachie makes this influence known throughout the track, but it also needs to be said that this type of vocalization isn't anything new in the genre. Thanks to vocalists like Chester and Corey Taylor, Hell, let's throw Chino Moreno in the mix -- and yes, another comes to mind but we need to move on, that bar has been raised. Lachie creates a very strong form of melody and vocalization that gives this track definite character.

The timbre of the guitar playing gives the song a piano-like ring to it and when a layer of rhythm guitar comes strumming in, it's plenty of foundation to build on. This is where Lachie can focus on the vocals, an acapella of hand-built and biological instrumentation. Once the song has established itself, it continues in a more extended format where rock nu-metal style vocals are reached in what could be described as a storm. A powerful rageful wind coming through.

The lyrics talk about deep-seated emotions, being pried away from which one would have to because that person is emotionally rooted in the relationship. "I just want you to feel the pain, driving you insane..." This is the kind of song that is left to be interpreted by the listener, contextualized with whatever they might be going through emotionally. Also, bringing up Chester Bennington as an influence, it's easy to refer to why he's not with us anymore but I chose not to go there. For those of us who are stil here, I can't wait to see what else LokkisKott has coming in the near future.
